Why is Eating so complicated?

July 10, 2014

Mia The Diva

Hey Divas!

Eating has gotten so complicated hasn’t it? Sometimes it can get frustrating when the racing thoughts come to mind of what should I eat how much of it, when should I eat? It’s pretty crazy how that like everybody is familiar with antioxidants, saturated fat, omega -3 fatty acid carbohydrates, gluten, probiotics,folic acid, stevia, simple carbs, complex carbs, the list is endless! In general we know it’s good for us and it ends there, most of us do not know why it’s good for us.

The crazy thing is that with ALL of this information we have it seems like food is not food anymore and somehow the enjoyment and satisfaction of eating has turned into counting carbs and nutritional facts more than the simple enjoyment of eating a good meal.
Having so much information can overwhelm a diva!

Feeling frustrated and confused in general about how to eat is what promoted me to deep dive and learn about nutrition and learn about how to eat properly and make better food choices.

I don’t want to have to rely on someone to tell me what to eat. I have worked with personal trainers who have given me a ” list ” to eat from and it did not work for me long-term because I did not understand food and how it worked in my body. I eventually got bored with my ” list ” and went back to my X Mr. McNasty…..he can sure sweet talk a diva during those late night foodie calls……. I know it’s complicated.

I’ve had to learn from my body and listen to her of what food works what food doesn’t. It’s not over night it takes time. What I have found out is that typically if I’m craving a certain food means that I am lacking that nutrient, for example milk; if a diva starts stalking and tip cows at night for milk ….then ummmm you may need calcium however calcium foods are typically higher in fat calories so experts recommend to take a calcium supplement to help curb the craving but still get the nutrition without the extra calories when trying to lose weight.

#Foodtip broccoli is a great source of calcium!

Hey Divas!

I am going to be completely honest I really did not want to post up these pictures today. I was cool with the front shot but then I thought you know, I owe it to myself and to my readers to keep it real and keep the raw and uncut version as promised. So here I am thinking ok not too bad from my front shot……. then I took my side profile shot and was like dayumm…………..ummm yes girl.

We got some work to.

The purpose of the commitment photo is to mark our starting point. I will post a 30 day a 60 day and 90 day pic. I am hoping that this pic (especially my side bar shot) will serve as my motivation when Roberto’s Nachos are callin a diva!

You know ladies jokes aside, at the end if the day it’s just not healthy to carry all this weight around. Weight especially in the abdomen puts a lot of pressure on vital organs and can impair their ability to function properly like our liver that one we kind of need it to work in order to survive. I’m just sayin. #IJS

I challenge you to join me take a picture of yourself #flybyjuly hashtag to get in on the challenge follow your progress and I will follow you back! Please be sure to shoot a front shot and a side shot of your body so you can see your progress. I used a cool app called Pic Stitch it’s great for simple collages where you can do a split screen shot of your two pics.

So take a Commitment Selfie today. There is no need to do the whole bra and panties shot or having your tummy goodies and lady lumps all out and about no fancy camera tricks needed because we are not going to need it divas. A picture can say a thousand words your friends n family be like ” Daaaayummmm is that you? ” and we will respond ” Sho-Nuff. ” with class of course.

The ” 90/10 ” Rule

December 22, 2011

Mia The Diva

Hello Beauties!

In addition to being fabulous, a lot of our lifestyle is structured around what we eat. In weight management food is very important.

People can work out for hours and hours, cardio and power walk, run themselves to death sweat out in saunas only to get frustrated when just ” water weight ” comes off and never really seem to lose anything.

Such a shame after a Diva has sweated her hair out and no results!

In managing weight it’s 90% of what you eat, and 10% of exercise, so let’s check out how our diets compare:

The American Cancer Society has developed guidelines to help you reduce your risk for cancer and other ” lifestyle ” illnesses like heart disease and diabetes etc.

Did you know that scientist estimate that 35% of all cancer deaths may be related to what we eat?
We don’t need to be buying flowers for any divas anytime soon so check out these steps listed below to help get us started on the path to eating clean.

* Avoiding Obesity ( weighing more than 20% or more of your target weight standard based on your frame and if you are small or big boned )

* Eating fewer foods that have high cholesterol levels.

* Cutting down on fat intake – primarily from animals that come from meat and dairy products

*Eating bulkier, high fiber foods like veggies and whole grain breads and cereals

* Eating at least 5 servingsof fruits and veggies each day especially those rich in vitamin A and Vitamin C.

* Consuming moderate amounts of salt cured, smoked, foods like bacon, ham, and smoked fish.

* Don’t blame it on the alcohol! LoL limit your intake if you drink at all

* Cutting down on salt

* Reduce intake of sugar

* Reducing fat intake

* Choose food items with less than one gram of fat per 30 calories.

* Keep saturated fat ( found in animal products and packaged foods ) less than 10% of total calories.

* Calculate the percentage of calories from fat by ( amount of calories x .30 = number of calories from fat )

If you need help on deciding what to eat and how much of it use The Food Guide Pyramid.
