So what do you think of when you hear the fretful words ” metabolism ” some of us may conjur up images in our heads about our weight, how sluggish we may feel after a meal, or some of us may be amazed how by how much food we can consume without ever gaining a pound!
Hold on dear diva! Metabolism is far too clever to be that simple. It’s alot more complex; basically our metabolism regulates how our cells use and store energy. ie ( calories ) and it is different for everyone.
Metabolism Myths! * FRAUD *
” Thin people have fast metabolisms. ” right?….. WRONG! The less we weigh the slower our metabolism because it does not take a whole lot to maintain a small frame that’s why you can see a thin person eat for decades and never gain a pound!
The more muscle we have the more calories we burn so grab your super cape dear diva!
” I’ve gained weight. It’s my thyroid. “ LOL this is my excuse! right….” . If my thyroid is jacked up; to hell with it, gimme that pizza! ” WRONG!
According to Adrain Dobs M.D of Hopkins University of Medicine says that weight gain due to thyroid not producing enough hormone may cause metabolsim to slow down but nothing more than 5 to 10 pounds. So before we start blaming our hormone inbalance let’s take a step back and look at our habits! Ouch Dr. Dobs!
” I feel sluggish in the afternoon, it must be my metabolism. I need a Nap! … and a drink too..” right?…… WRONG!
More than likely that 12 inch foot long subway meatball hero sandwich is to blame for your noon time blahs. A meal that is high in fat and processed sugars can cause our blood sugar to quickly spike up and drop as quickly as it went up. This can make us a little sleepy.
” I sweat like a Pig in Heat! So I must have a fast metabolism. “ right…. WRONG!
We can not determine out metabolism based on how many buckets of sweat we can produce in a work out session. There are many reasons one can sweat like crazy. If you are drenched you are a SUPER FLY DIVA who gave her work out her all and she shall be rewarding calorie burning muscle mass later. Her metabolism will be a DISCO INFERNAL!
A Healthy Metabolism allow us to:
- Maintain a healthy weight
- Blood sugar that is in balance
- lowers ” bad” cholesterol ( LDL ) and increases ” good ” cholesterol ( HDL )
If you are serious about wanting to lose weight and ” diets ” never seem to work; alot of it may have to do with the type of food that you are eating for example someone who processes carbs slowly may thrive on say the Atkins diet because it takes the body longer to break down the food.
Then you take another person who processes carbs quickly the Atkins diet would not work because it would run through their body like water! It will process so quickly through their body they can lose important nutrients, not a good look for a diva!
Alot of it has to do with our genetic make up and how our bodies process certain foods. Litterally what may be one person’s ” healthy food ” can be another person’s poison.
Our bodies burn calories constantly it does not matter if we are sitting on the couch or sweating it out at the gym we burn!
So you can sit on the couch and burn like a Tasty Bake Oven or you can tap into your inner Fit & Fly diva goddess get your Cardio on Grab a dumb-bell or two and Burn Like a DISCO INFERNAL!
