How are we doing? What’s been working? What has not? What are we doing to take care of ourselves and our needs?
In today’s blog I want to talk about self check-ins. How are we doing? What’s been working? What has not? What are we doing to take care of ourselves and our needs?

Hey Divas! ✨
Hello and welcoming Flying back into Fall! It’s officially Fall Ya’ll! Our Season in which we thrive here at FBJ! As promised, I will stand by my commitment to blog here weekly now that we are officially in Autumn. We’ve got places to go, people to see and things to do this Fall Season!
The next couple of weeks are going to be hectic lots going on and of course I will keep my divas looped in as things unfold. So here we are it’s Fall and although summer has come to an end it’s officially time to lock in and close out the year strong to set ourselves up for a successful 2026!
We are officially in the last 3 months well, almost two months of the year. I cannot even believe we are mouthing 2026 but we are here. We are here!

The most common cause that alot of us say that cause us to gain weight or find it difficult to manage it is our Emotional Eating.
I’ve always been a big girl during my entire adult hood. It started after High School, when I was younger a child I was ” skinny ” and was picky about what I ate and like most kids did not like vegetables, water, you know the things that sustain life.
As I got older, went through puberty, life happened, the good and bad. I didn’t use food as an emotional crutch. I wasn’t eating into oblivion. So that’s what I told myself to make it ” Ok. ” However, I did not make the most nutritious choices. I made my choices based off of convenience.
I had alot of shame around it because as I got older the weight just continued to pack on. I was confused because what I was eating did not, in my mind, justify the size of my changing body.
I lost my mother shortly after turning 25. I gained “grief weight.” About two years later, I got involved in my first “real” long-term relationship. I gained “relationship weight” during this time. I was in a pivotal point in my life and did not truly grieve her death until many years later.
Unprocessed grief and the excitement of a new relationship manifested in keeping busy. It also appeared in distractions, eating comfort food, and not showing up for myself or my relationship in ways I desired.
Over the years, any upset that I had in my life led me to use food as a reward. Whether it was issues at work, relationships, family, or grief, I used food as comfort and a companion.
Food in my opinion really is not the problem we need it to sustain our lives. It’s more about our relationship with food. It’s about tracking how often we are eating be it too much or not enough.
I’ve learned over the years that unhealthy eating and not getting in enough movement not only leads to weight gain but can also lead to self loathing and going into a downward spiral of anxiety that is really hard to get out of on our own. Not a good look for a diva!
It wasn’t until now that I am getting older and being grown in general doing the adult things, having doctor appointments, and navigating health scares. I realize that I do not want to grow old in pain and not being able to take care of myself.
I want to have quality of life and be capable of keeping my independence as long as possible. It really is not about the cute outfits anymore or even being desired to a great extent. I honestly just want to enjoy my life and be healthy anything else extra or if a balcony is involved 😜 is a blessing and a bonus!
I have lived enough life to know that there will never be a stress free time in life. To be honest, as long as we are here, life will continue to life and that’s a good thing. What challenges us ultimately grows us and makes for a better life experience, because when ish hits the fan as we grow we just get better and better at navigating life’s curve balls.
The important thing is to identify emotional triggers is to do a self check in. I’ve been doing this for about two years now and has been a game changer in managing my emotions.
I’m not perfect I will still have a good crash out session here and there but I no longer spiral and stay there. I have my moment or moments as they come and honor how I am feeling. I tell myself that my now is not my forever.
Facing our fears and staring at it dead in the face is the most empowering thing I have been able to do. It’s scary and uncomfortable. Journaling by far has been a game changer for me.
When life gets to be a bit more demanding and overwhelming, I journal more often. Once I started treating it as a personal meeting with myself, it became something that I look forward to each week.
It helps me get out of my head and clear my emotional bandwidth. For me, I’m old school, so it’s a real pen to real paper. Something about writing it down in real life adds the physical element of processing my emotions.
Self Check-In Check List

I’ve put together a self check in check list that can be used as often as you like or you need to check in with yourself dear diva.
How am I feeling?
What am I going to do about it?
Why do I feel this way?
How do I want to feel?
Asking myself these questions have helped me stay grounded and understand myself better and what I am feeling so that I can lean into how I want to feel.
We’re in the last 2 months of the year divas, let’s Lock-In and start wrapping up 2025!

Hey Divas!
Knowing the assignment is key the grade is the result. Remember those kids who seemed to get straight A’s with no real effort that we perceived they were naturally smart?
Those kids had systems, habits and discipline many of them in sports or had some kind of passion for an extra curricular activity. It got me thinking…that it’s no different with our body and our health & wellness journey approach.
The assignment is simple but not easy.
1. Eat Clean
2. Move your body
3. Be Consistent
Plus a bonus thought 💭 Have a hobby you love because there is more to life than exercise & eating.
I remember focusing so much on the scale like it was a scribe of some sort like the change of numbers was going to do something significant in my life. When l focused on my actual efforts and actions taken is when l felt most progress not the numbers on the scale. The numbers were just a result of my efforts. I now use the scale as awareness that l’m on my game or off it.
I went hiking over the weekend and walked 9.5 miles and over 23k steps! The assignment was to complete the hike as a result l lost 3lbs but my focus was not weightloss it was l need to complete this hike. Plus there was no way we were getting out from there no cars, it was our only choice.

I was tired sore and walked like an 80 year old woman afterwards but also felt so strong and so proud of my body carrying me this far.
It was definitely the kick start l needed and my body thanked me for it by rewarding me with more energy after l rested over the next 24 hours.
When we finished our hike we went out to eat. l truly enjoyed my food it seemed to taste better and l truly felt like l earned it which has been a complete game changer.

Hey Divas,
Up with anxiety having a hard time going to sleep this week. I had been under some stress after losing another one of my Uncles and couldn’t quite shake the jitters trying to fall asleep. Every time l think l’ve got this grief thing down. I’m painfully wrong.
Ultimately it is life and something we all must go through but it really really sucks and l wish l had a better way to put it but l don’t.
It didn’t help l had a glass of wine before bedtime. I learned that it can trigger jitters along with caffeine. Not a good look for a diva!
I went to bed well tried to.
I tossed and turned broke into a sweat. I never sweat heavily so l knew something was up. I was able to watch to two full feature films and not fall asleep. The movies triggered my anxiety so I decided since l couldn’t sleep to put this extra energy to use.
I stepped out on my patio. I’m glad it’s still cold out nice crisp after midnight chill. I held my cat then decided to make a cup of tea. I dimmed my lights. It’s helping as l’m writing l’m starting to calm down.

There really are no ways to get out of the horrible feeling of anxiety and panic attacks. It’s just something we have to go through understand it’s not forever but extremely uncomfortable. I was reading about how exercise actually calms the body. Incentive to start walking. I really need to get moving anyway.
I think about what l’m anxious about and honestly it’s a lot of things. The best way l’ve learned to tackle these issues is to focus on the right now to have faith that everything works out one way or another and the focus on the things l am in control of like what l eat and moving my body.
I focus on my goals and the things that l want to accomplish this year. Taking on the little things this week like starting my day with intention. Keeping up with my daily rituals and making adjustments as needed.

Hi Divas!
Here we are into a New Campaign season!
So what’s the real flex on a wellness journey?
Self Awareness for sure.
I started detoxing last week drinking lemon water, celery juice and detox smoothie to start my day. l’m working on being more active on my trampoline. I have long work days, honestly do not have the time on my work days to work out but will go outside to walk on my off days. So for now l get in my jumps throughout the day and it gives me a boost.
I noticed feeling tired in spite of eating healthier. I have my energy throughout the day which is great but still my body is catching up if that makes sense. I’ve been food journaling which has been helpful to understand my habits and improvements over time.

It’s also important to know where you’re going. Where do you see yourself one year from now? Really think about it. Think about it in every aspect of your life. We all need something to look forward to.
So for starters that we are officially in Campaign Season we will start with our goals.
Breaking down a goal can be overwhelming and a year can seem so far away even though they seem to fly by so fast at the same time.
Write down your Ultimate Goal – This is what we want to ultimately achieve. Write down what you will need to do in order to achieve that goal. Be honest with your self and what barriers can be in the way of stopping you. Then start slashing them one by one. In short make your goals your bishh .
No small goal in between is too small only as long as it is bringing you to your ultimate vision.
So we start with long term goals, what will we need to do monthly to get there, what will we need to do weekly. What will we need to do daily?
Then Reward yourself for each goal achieved in each category start learning how to pamper and treat yourself that has nothing to do with food to keep you inspired and on the course!

Hi Divas!
So we just got through that nostalgic time of year and also that time when optimism is at it’s peak. So take advantage of this positive energy!
So many things can knock a diva’s day off let alone her year. So here are a few tips to get those positive vibes going and morning rituals!
1. Eat before working out Fuel Up Divas!
You’ll get more of a boost and if you are into early riser kind of workouts find an easy digestible carb that is low in fat and fiber. A banana is great to give you energy without causing tummy issues before exercising.
2. Drink Up! Cheers!
Post work out recovery go-to’s Vitamin C for muscle repair and breakfast a smoothie or bar that has a mix of carbs proteins and fiber to help repair muscles and replenish energy.
When a diva is dried out from not getting hydrated is not a good look for a diva! To stay on your game it’s best to keep hydrated throughout the day.
Standard rule of thumb is to divide half your current body weight into ounces to make sure you’re hitting those water goals! It’s a good idea to bring a 16 oz water bottle try to drink the whole thing during your 1 hour work out.
Plastic water bottles are thought to be a health risk because of the recycled plastic. Harmful chemicals are emitted from these bottles, and these chemicals might cause cancer.

3. Create good vibes & go outside!
There is a freshness and sense of freedom working out outside. Just something about crisp morning air in the colder months and the freshness of a new morning during the summer months.
Alas Let it Go dear diva!
Music! Who loves a good ole booty shake! My playlist ranges a little bit of everything Black Eyed Peas is my Go- To Yes! That 40 plus Club playlist be FiYa!! Fast high energy music has been proven to increase endurance a diva can go a little further and also adds a happy distraction 🙂
Let it all Go! Let it all OUT! It’s been a year! A tough one for a lot of us out here.
Take heart that Strong emotions are exhausting and can be draining. Physically too. I couldn’t really put my finger on why l was tired for no real reason.
Where the mind goes energy flows stressing and negativity is definitely a drain but it’s still energy. Put it to good use having a Super Fly workout or better yet clean your house! Two in one deal!
Happy New Year Divas! May your 2022 Be Your BEST & FLYEST Yet!
