Hey Divas!

Protein helps to repair, build and shape those fabulous ” muskies ” of yours while you burn calories to reduce fat. Whey protein supplements can be used as an exercise recovery drink within about a half hour of exercise; It can also be used as an occasional meal replacement.

So what exactly is Whey? Whey protein is natural part of dairy products like yogurt for example. You may see it a lot in the stores as a supplement shake in big jars. Be careful not to take too much if you experience bloating or headaches it’s not a good look for a diva and you are trying to do a bit too much. Studies recommend one gram per kilogram of body weight but take heart divas do your own research to find out how much you need.

What makes Whey Protein so Fabulous?

Picture this; you are in the gym working on your fitness and bringing’ the sexy back lifting weights, after your routine you have a delicious Whey Chocolate Protein Shake taste sooooooo good, you almost forget that it’s healthy.

Whey protein gets digested very quickly by the body which means it can be used faster than other forms of nutrition even other types of protein. In supplement form it’s much lower in calories of fat and carbs sooooooo that means if you take a swig after a weight bearing exercise; it will go straight into the fabulous sexy & lean sculpted muscles of yours!

Why is Eating so complicated?

July 10, 2014

Mia The Diva

Hey Divas!

Eating has gotten so complicated hasn’t it? Sometimes it can get frustrating when the racing thoughts come to mind of what should I eat how much of it, when should I eat? It’s pretty crazy how that like everybody is familiar with antioxidants, saturated fat, omega -3 fatty acid carbohydrates, gluten, probiotics, folic acid, stevia, simple carbs, complex carbs, the list is endless! In general we know it’s good for us and it ends there, most of us do not know why it’s good for us.

The crazy thing is that with ALL of this information we have it seems like food is not food anymore and somehow the enjoyment and satisfaction of eating has turned into counting carbs and nutritional facts more than the simple enjoyment of eating a good meal.
Having so much information can overwhelm a diva!

Feeling frustrated and confused in general about how to eat is what promoted me to deep dive and learn about nutrition and learn about how to eat properly and make better food choices.

I don’t want to have to rely on someone to tell me what to eat. I have worked with personal trainers who have given me a ” list ” to eat from and it did not work for me long-term because I did not understand food and how it worked in my body. I eventually got bored with my ” list ” and went back to my X Mr. McNasty…..he can sure sweet talk a diva during those late night foodie calls……. I know it’s complicated.

I’ve had to learn from my body and listen to her of what food works what food doesn’t. It’s not over night it takes time. What I have found out is that typically if I’m craving a certain food means that I am lacking that nutrient, for example milk; if a diva starts stalking and tip cows at night for milk ….then ummmm you may need calcium however calcium foods are typically higher in fat calories so experts recommend to take a calcium supplement to help curb the craving but still get the nutrition without the extra calories when trying to lose weight.

#Foodtip broccoli is a great source of calcium!

Late Night Foodie Calls – When do “Cheat Days” become a problem?

July 9, 2014

Mia The Diva

Hey Divas!

You know we all have had our “cheat days” or slip ups while trying to get healthy by making a lifestyle change. Making change is simple but no necessarily easy. It’s cool if you ” got into the chicken ” one night it’s a part of the process and it’s healthy to have balance. One cheat day is not going to kill you. Now with that being said if your “Cheat Day ” becomes ” Cheat Days ” leading into ” Cheat Week ” then ” Houston we’ve got a problem! ” #notagoodlookforadiva

Speaking from personal experience I never really had a cheat day. I will take us back to 2004 I was on Weight Watchers and girl I was so good. Too good. I counted all of my points prepared all of my meals like clock work ate just about the same thing everyday I wrote everything down ( before app days ) I worked two jobs and still made it to the gym in-between. I lost my first 10 lbs and you could not tell me nothing! Losing 10lbs was a milestone for me and it felt like 100! Who’s that Lady? It’s me! It’s me! I would tell everyone….I’m that Lady!…..then I forgot to bring my lunch one day.

Errrrrrp!!! So I go to Jack in The Box order a basic hamburger with no dressing calling myself ” being good ” and I completely chucked it! Yuck gross!!! My body rejected it because she was adapting to the clean foods I was eating. My body was like noooooo chick! Fu*k that sh*t.

Still to this day I can not eat a jack in the box burger which is not a bad thing but this did ” trigger ” those old feelings of satisfaction that only high carbs and fried food can provide. I started accepting those late night foodie calls here and there then eventually went back to my X fast food …Mr. Mc Nasty. It was so wrong but it felt so good.

I did not want anyone to get hurt in this toxic food relationship but in the end my body paid the price by gaining double the weight I had lost, the onset of health problems I am experiencing today, and my self-esteem was at an all time low. The morale of the story is it’s healthy to have a cheat day to help avoid a binge episode and so that you do not feel deprived. It really is a lifestyle change.

Over the years I have learned that I did not have a clear vision of what I wanted and Why I wanted it. You know the real why that goes beyond the ” magic dress size ” having a generic why caused me to relapse each and every single time. Once I realized that my health was declining given primarily as a direct result of the poor lifestyle choices I made is when it got real and it was how I discovered my Why.

Once we see ourselves getting into a pattern off accepting ” late night foodie calls” no matter their form STOP get refocused! That is why it is so important for us to,have a vision of what our healthy lifestyle will look like and have the daily goals to get us there and keep focused.

When this begins to happen revisit your vision board. You must really think about WHY you want to get healthy or WHY you want to stay healthy.

Let’s Start Our Engines Divas! Why do you want to lose weight or maintain?

Hey Divas!

I am going to be completely honest I really did not want to post up these pictures today. I was cool with the front shot but then I thought you know, I owe it to myself and to my readers to keep it real and keep the raw and uncut version as promised. So here I am thinking ok not too bad from my front shot……. then I took my side profile shot and was like dayumm…………..ummm yes girl.

We got some work to.

The purpose of the commitment photo is to mark our starting point. I will post a 30 day a 60 day and 90 day pic. I am hoping that this pic (especially my side bar shot) will serve as my motivation when Roberto’s Nachos are callin a diva!

You know ladies jokes aside, at the end if the day it’s just not healthy to carry all this weight around. Weight especially in the abdomen puts a lot of pressure on vital organs and can impair their ability to function properly like our liver that one we kind of need it to work in order to survive. I’m just sayin. #IJS

I challenge you to join me take a picture of yourself #flybyjuly hashtag to get in on the challenge follow your progress and I will follow you back! Please be sure to shoot a front shot and a side shot of your body so you can see your progress. I used a cool app called Pic Stitch it’s great for simple collages where you can do a split screen shot of your two pics.

So take a Commitment Selfie today. There is no need to do the whole bra and panties shot or having your tummy goodies and lady lumps all out and about no fancy camera tricks needed because we are not going to need it divas. A picture can say a thousand words your friends n family be like ” Daaaayummmm is that you? ” and we will respond ” Sho-Nuff. ” with class of course.

So be sure to subscribe to the blog and get connected on social media outlets! I decided to bring a different approach to the blog because Obesity is an epidemic in this country that leads to early graves and living a life of chronic pain and suffering from degenerative disease and chronic illness.

” We live too short and die too long. ” – Dr. Myron Wentz

The word needs to get out how we can take better care if ourselves. We all know what we need to do to lose weight and know the benefits of weight loss and management but many of us fail to stay motivated. The purpose of this blog is to motivate and inspire. I think that we need to start with motivation before anything else we have to have a reason to get up and get moving. Motivation starts with love appreciation and value of ourselves.

Inspire or be Inspired.

I also have quite the top shelf cocktail of health problems hypothyroidism, insulin resistant (Pre-Diabetic) Severe Sleep Apnea just to name a few. In short I’m an over-weight medical hot mess! #notagoodlookforadiva
