If you want to eat baby food and rice cakes for the rest of your life fine.

If you want to eat eggs until you lay one fine.

If you want to eat like a rabbit fine.

If you want to eat grapefruits for breakfast lunch and dinner fine.

The ugly truth about diets eventhough many of us start them in the hopes of either obtaining more energy or losing weight most of the time we will lose the weight intially then pack it back on as quickly as it came off the first time we eat a real             ” biscuit ” again.

Many diets claim to promote energy and weight loss but they only work for the long term if the food you are eating is compatible with your metabolic type.

This is why one person can thrive on say the ” Atkins Diet ” while another person may gain weight on the same exact diet!

Metabolic Typing is the key to effective and to sustain long term

weight loss.

Metabolic Typing is the reason that one person’s nourishment may litterally be another person’s poison.

So take the time to learn about yourself get with a nutritionist and find out your metabolic type if you are serious about improving your health and losing weight for the long haul!

Metabolic Testing is a system for a diva to optimize whole body health.

Diets and Nutritional Supplements are used to address nutritional needs at a basic fundamental level.

That is why if you take vitamins alone it is important to eat a balanced diet for your metabolic type.

You can not take vitamins and then eat junk.

Vitamins when used properly allow divas to have increased energy, weight loss and a greater resistance to disease!

So what’s your ” metabo – mojo ” ( metabolism ) digits!

Walk it out Wednesdays! Steps to Success!

January 18, 2012

Hello Beauties!

As a part of the Fly By July Program – Walking is a major part of the exercise that we will be doing it is our goal to reach 10,000 steps.

10,000 STEPS????

Yes Divas 10,000 steps which equals 5 miles!  Once you strap on a pedometer you will be amazed by just how many steps a diva can take in a Day!

The easiest way to track our steps is to use basic math for every 2,000 steps we walk is one mile.

Depending on our fitness level we may want to start at a goal that is not too hard where we give up or not too easy where we become bored.

The idea here is that we want to challenge ourselves!

Diva Eats Tuesday! Mastering Insulin

January 17, 2012

Hello Beauties!

We talked about in our meeting this past Sunday about how the body processes carbs into sugar which then is released to our pancreas to regulate our blood sugar levels.

If we eat foods that are ” over-processed carbs ” like white bread, refined pasta, foods that are also high in fat can do a ” take over ”

If our body produces too much insulin excess fat can store in the body.

If we constantly eat food that triggers for our blood sugar to spike it can overwork out bodies insulin production system which over time can develop into what is traditionally known as Type 2 Diabetes.

We can avoid this by making sure we eat Protein at every meal and snack.

A few good proteins are Turkey, Oysters, Lamb, and Chicken to name a few.

WHY?

Because Protein lowers our blood sugar response and lessens our need for insulin.

Be sure to load up on non starchy carbs like Almonds, Oats, Whole grain bread, Spinach etc!

Today is the first  National LYDIA Day!

Today 9 years ago my mother lost her battle to Type 2 Diabetes and Conjestive Heart Failure.

I learned all of my diva traits from her and even in her death she continues to inspire me.

She was truly a diva in every aspect of her life even until the very end.

Even though she became very ill she continued to educate herself about health and wellness, she continued to educate herself about her diseases.

She continued to FIGHT!

In spite of her illness you would have never known how ill she truly was – she still continued to go on – to take care of herself – she still went to work – she still lived her life – She still continued to be ” Fly & Fabulous  ” and a Diva -licious – oxogen tanks and all!

She continued to stay STRONG.

By using her name Lydia – L et Y our  D ays I nvolve A ction

It is a tribute to my mother and her legacy.

No matter what curve ball life may throw us we will have to continue on we still have to let our days involve action.

We still have to fight and never give up.

I challenge us all to let our days involve action no matter what!  No matter what happens we have to keep it rollin 🙂

It is my ultimate goal to start a foundation and to have this day recognized as a day to raise awarness about diabetes prevention and celebrating the lives of fallen divas who have lost their battle to this horrible disease.

Currently about 2.9 million people die each year world wide to Diabetes. If current trends continue 1 in 3 Americans will develop diabetes in their lifetime and those with diabetes will lose an average 10 to 15 years of life.

Diabetes is a disease that in my opinion goes un-noticed as a serious life threatening disease – it is just as serious as a cancer because it literally attacks the entire body.

The good news is, is that diabetes can be treated and managed with proper diet, nutrition, exercise and even reversed in some cases.

Millions of people don’t even know that they have the disease and live for years with it.  In many cases the disease has already done the damage by the time most people discover they have the disease and soon after develop complications.

I’ve attached a link with a video from the American Diabetes Association that explains the symptoms of the disease and how to decrease your chances of complications.
